Maki Talking is a calligrapher with the fresh color and beauty of a male Takarazuka actor. Her eyes always remind me of the brownish eyes of John Lone, the star of my day.
Ms. Maki graduated from the prestigious Nihongakusha University with a master's degree in Chinese painting and calligraphy from the prestigious China Academy of Art as a Chinese government-sponsored international student. Her strong mental strength, which is different from her neat appearance, must have been cultivated during her study abroad period.
After returning to Japan, she has been presenting her works mainly as a freelance artist at department stores and galleries, and has built up a nationwide fan base.
Another impression I have of Ms. Maki is that she is a "Yaobikuni," a legendary Buddhist nun who ate the flesh of a mermaid and lived an immortal life. Toyama Prefecture, where the somewhat supernatural Maki was born and where she still maintains her hermitage, oddly enough, has a mermaid legend. For some reason, I can't get out of my mind the fantasy that Ms. Maki ate mermaids when Toyama was in the Etchu area and is still alive today.
Ms. Maki's knowledge, dignity, strength, and playful spirit must be due to the fact that she has witnessed this turbulent world for hundreds of years (my imagination exploded).
I invite you to enjoy her work to your heart's content!
